| The re-issues of Sly's first 7 albums + the greatest hits album is the best music to come out in the last 30 years. Why stop there? Sly released another 4 albums and I love every track on every record. How about another set of expanded CD's of High On You, Heard You Missed Me, Back On The Right Track and Ain't But The One Way? The world needs this! |

| Crossword Puzzle, I get High on You, Who do You Love, Organize, etc. I thought he was thru, however he just brought it all back. A true reflection of the past and shooting for the future. Sly really hit this one on the head. Again, changing music to what we hear today. Great asset to anyones collection. |

I agree with Alexltavares for the most part, although my deep love for SMALL TALK will not allow me to concede that High On You is the most underrated of all Sly albums. In my personal opinion, I think that both records are two of rock music's most notoriously underrated records. See the most recent edition of Rolling Stone's Record Review Guide for an example - one would think that Sly's career ended with FRESH. Such an injustice, but Rolling Stone don't know soul (or rock for that matter!) Crossword Puzzle is the highlight for me. A great indicator of Sly's genius as a lyricist and philosopher can be found in all three of this classic's verses, but Sly sounds engaged throughout. Excellent arrangements. Nice mix of uptempo (Who Do You Love?, Organize) and slow jams (That's Lovin' You, My World). His last truly great moment. |

Most underrated of all Sly albums! His highest energy on an Album since STAND! Peaked only at #45, and was his last "significant" album. "I Get High On You" was an R&B hit, reaching #3 on the charts.
Crossword Puzzle with its socially poignant lyrics, amazing horn arrangement and FUNKY bassline, is in my top 3 Sly songs, behind STAND! and THANK YOU. Ok maybe at 4 behind HOT FUN.
Other greats on this album are Who do you love (great fuzz bassline!), I get High on You (R&B hit), That's lovin you (wonderful horn and violin arrangements), My World (Sly lovesong!), So Good to Me, and the instrumental Green eyed monster girl.
Even the cornball Le-Lo-Li, has a certain Sly charm to it, winning you over as much as you don't want it to.
5 stars in my book! |
